Welcome to Grandparents of Kids with Cancer: It's Our Journey Too (GOKWC) which I created in 2014. My name is Pat.

My daughter was in a support group for parents, and I was looking for something similar, but for grandparents. I couldn't find any support specifically for grandparents who had a grandchild with cancer, so my daughter suggested I start one of my own. I took advice from an admin of my daughter's group, and GOKWC was born. 

The group is a closed, private support group.

We offer peer emotional support, and our members also offer practical tips and advice on how to navigate the unique situation of supporting our children as they struggle to support their own children. We have a strict grandparents-only policy, and all members are vetted by admin before they are accepted, to maintain confidentiality.

I myself am based in Greenock, Inverclyde, but we have members all around the world. Members in the UK, USA and Australia try to organise  meet-ups once a year in their respective countries, and strong bonds have been created within the group.
